The first stage of La Cordillera Challenge will take place in one of the most spectacular places in El Salvador. This stage, called "La Trilogía” (Literal meaning: The Trilogy) consists of 3 iconic peaks of the Apaneca - Ilamatepec Biosphere Reserve:
- Izalco volcano
- Cerro Verde
- Ilamatepec volcano
Starting off from Lake Coatepeque, one of El Salvador’s natural wonders, and nominated second place in the Eight Natural Wonders of the World, you will ascend the 3 volcanoes through a panoramic course that will leave you stunned. However, runners will be faced with various difficulties, such as volcanic terrain and strong gusts of wind.

RETO DE LAS NUBES

With almost 35 KM of accumulated distance, the true test of strength and resistance begins, since runners will be faced with multiple ascents and descents passing through important summits of the Cordillera (five to be exact), running through a variety of misty forests, coffee farms and a beautiful lagoon. A point in favor will be the cool weather, but don't be fooled because the slopes on this route will be your main challenge... a challenge among the clouds!

EL QUINTO INFIERNO

In our popular Salvadoran language, we use the expression "El Quinto Infierno" (literal meaning: "the fifth hell") when we refer to a site or place very far from the point where we usually find ourselves. In this case, the third stage of the race is no exception and combined with the heat, this name is perfect for its description. With almost 84 km accumulated, your mental barriers will become your main challenge. Physical strength will depend solely on your steadiness and determination to continue. A spectacular tour, mixing trails, river crossings, cornfields, a waterfall and overlooking the Pacific Ocean, until reaching upon the beautiful Barra de Santiago, one of El Salvador's most spectacular beaches!
